Meet Our Team

Omar El Abd, MD

Dr. El Abd is a nationally renowned Interventional Spine Physiatrist. He is specialized in the diagnosis and conservative treatment of painful spine conditions.

Dr. El Abd had residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center/ Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He had fellowship training in interventional Spine at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

In 2003 he joined the Harvard Medical School as an Instructor and in 2011 he became an assistant professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He directed interventional spine at Newton Wellesley Hospital since 2004 and he started the interventional spine program at Spaulding Framingham in 2011.

In January 2014 Dr. El Abd moved to private practice and opened Newton Wellesley Interventional Spine, LLC in Wellesley to be able to serve the community more efficiently.

Dr. El Abd is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Pain Management.

Dr. El Abd conducted research and has numerous publications in the peer reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Elabd lectured locally, nationally and internationally on management of painful spine conditions.

Dr. El Abd has special interest in prevention of painful spine problems and healthy living.

Dr. El Abd’s philosophy consists of prompt evaluation and management of spine conditions using evidence based methods of management. He is also conscious about the cost of health care. Evaluating the patients and performing procedures in the office saves the patients and the healthcare system the high expenses of hospitals facility fees. This is especially relevant to the patients when they have high deductible insurances. This also relevant to the primary care doctors if their patients have HMO coverage. The reduction in costs does not affect quality as Dr. El Abd sticks to the highest level of management and he has lectured and published research on the prevention of complications of spinal procedures.
